2006 Life Saving Competition - Cronulla Beach

Another week down and only one left to go before my contract here expires. Woke up at the crack of dawn with Ruth to head South to Cronulla, site of the December 2005 riots back when I first landed here. It is a beautiful place with a quaint 'banff-style' main avenue and endless kms of white sandy beaches (and that's where the similarities to Banff end).

Unbeknownst to us, all the action on the beach centered on Australia's annual Life Saving Competitions - you might say that we lucked out (see above picture). We spent the next 5 solid hours there, blissfully soaking in the scorching sun and taking in the scenery.

After a leisurely start to our Sunday afternoon, we eventually made it down to Watson's Bay, home of several famous Doyle's restaurants. Older sister, take note. We will be going here. I hadn't been over to this area since Boxing Day when the annual Sydney to Hobart race went sailing by this cove.



We hopped on the last ferry of the day to get back to the city and took this shot as we cruised into Circular Quay.



What do the next several months hold for me? Heavy emphasis on the travel aspect of the trip, light on the working bit. Off to New Zealand (North & South Islands) for three weeks, and then a 5 week stint in the O.R. in Melbourne. Why only 5 weeks? Because my older sister is making the trek out to Oz. Naturally, she'll want to spend some good, quality time together after missing me desperately for the last three months, but we also have some pretty amazing travel plans for East Coast lined up.
